Pair of Rosenthal “Butterfly” Art Deco Trinket Dishes Designed by Kurt Wendler, Selb Bavaria Germany, c. 1920s–1930s

A charming and finely executed pair of Rosenthal porcelain trinket dishes in the “Butterfly” (Schmetterling) hand-painted design, produced at the Selb Bavaria factory during the Art Deco period.

Each dish features two stylised butterflies hovering above scrolling foliate ornament, rendered in vibrant enamel colours of ochre, cobalt, violet, coral and soft green. The composition is framed by elegant gilt accents and a rich black crescent motif, characteristic of the refined decorative vocabulary of the 1920s–30s.

The decoration is marked to the base “Butterfly – Handgemalt” beneath the Rosenthal Selb Bavaria factory mark, confirming hand-painted production. Both pieces are artist signed and retain crisp gilded rims.
