Antique engraved bronze tripod Censer (Ming)

Large antique engraved bronze tripod Censer Ming translation on 4 panel Mark on base.

24cm H x 26 Diameter and weighs 5.14kg. Exceptional condition given age and marks indicate it has been used over an extended period.

Fine large panel engravings on 2 panels depict the same farming scene with 2 Chinese figures, a scholar with a book on an ox and a second figure holding a basket. The censer is cast with a compressed globular body flanked by two loop handles. The base is cast with a four-character mark translation including the word Ming.  Censers are used for incense burning and generally found at the entrance of temples. The first Chinese bronze censers are recorded as far back as 1600BC. For a better understanding refer to Sothebys

From Melaka City in Malaysia. Melakan antiques are often of Chinese origin as the Malay of Chinese origin maintained connection to their own Chinese heritage through family heirlooms and general household feature pieces.
